The Internet is this relatively new technology. It is
neither solely positive nor negative.
A major instance of the good versus the evil for the
Internet includes the topic of privacy. We have never had as much access to the
world than before the Internet. We can buy our clothes straight from a stores
website, we can use Facebook, and millions of other sites that allow for us to
connect to others. That is a very big positive, yet convenience comes at the
cost of people sharing their most important information. Information like
credit card info, home addresses, and so many other things are hacked and
viewed daily by many other’s than whom you would expect or want perusing that
info.
Dennis Miller, a comedian, once said, "Human beings are human beings. They say what they want, don't they? They used to say it across the fence while they were hanging wash. Now they just say it on the Internet."
Simply stating how the facet of day to day life has changed, and while he says it in a brusque manner, it still means the same things. The evolution of how humans communicate has forever changed, that means we read differently as well.
On another note my own web browsing in the last few days
involves dozens of sites.
·
Facebook is a daily use for me, as it is for
many others. When I read Facebook it is strictly glancing around for a glimpse
of some relevant post from a friend, or to chat with a friend.
o Chatting
to me is the most intriguing part, like texting, it is an almost instantaneous
way to talk without using a phone. Previous to picking up the phone and talking
to close friends, letters or face-to-face interaction was all that there was.
·
I use Yahoo not only as my homepage, but to
browse important news. While it might not be the most world renowned writers
doing it the site provides valuable information quickly, it also contains
sports news that bigger papers might not have.
·
Stumbleupon is of equal importance, I mean lets
be real… what else would I do during a 2 hour lecture class.
o This
type of site provides varied reading based upon my interests from sports, to
comedy, to history. It allows for the access of websites I would never have
seen without the randomized websites it stumbles for you.
